A Colourful Life: 8 More Facts About Me

My “About Me” post went down quite nicely on Instagram so thought I’d do another.
Here are eight unnecessary facts for you to peruse:

1.) I started this blog, The Colourful Kind, in April 2014, when Maia was six months old. It still brings me so much joy hitting publish on a post. (I’d like to start a Substack but don’t know if I can bear to leave WordPress.)

2.) When I meet someone and I assume they’re around my age, I’ll often ask when their birthday is and respond with what “school year” they were in, in accordance with me. *I left school nearly 13 years ago.

3.) I have two older brothers (same dad, different mum). One is a travel writer based in Italy. When I was younger I’d seek out Lonely Planet guides in book stores to find his face in the author section.

4.) I detest people eating fruit in the same vicinity as me. Bananas are the worst, satsumas aren’t great, bite into an apple and I’ll leave. (I could say more on this but for now I’ll just add I know I’m not the only one to find fruit tricky. I do eat fruit, but I have to be near a sink for immediate hand-washing. This doesn’t apply to bowl-based berries.)

5.) When I was seven I was dancing on a coffee table (to Kylie Minogue “Spinning Around”, I did) when I fell off and broke my arm. I was holding my mum’s friend’s hand and I said “Don’t let go! I’ll fall!” And she did and I did. They are not friends anymore.

6.) I’ve never been skiing. It does not appeal to me. Steep hills and unpredictable terrain. Panic-attack inducing stuff. Though the views do look nice. (I’d love to be able to say “Oh I love skiing”, but it’s not me and that’s okay.)

7.) I don’t adore cooking. I don’t use recipe books. I cook the same things every week. It’s something I hope to change. Cooking is an art after all. (When friends tell me they’re hosting Christmas, I gasp in shock, “You’re cooking Christmas lunch?! But how?! All the timings?! How will you not f*** it up?!”)

8.) Non-fiction books and plays only. Very occasionally I’ll read a novel. Recommendations welcome.
