“I regard the theatre as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being.”
– Oscar Wilde
Today I spent the afternoon in London with my good friend Julie. (Who you can read about in this post right here.)
We went to see The Last Five Years; a musical telling the story of Jamie and Cathy, two New Yorkers in their twenties who fall in and out of love over the course of five years.
Their stories are told in opposite directions, with Cathy beginning at the end and Jamie at the beginning, meeting only briefly as their stories cross. Samantha Barks and Jonathan Bailey were the only two actors and their singing was phenomenal. I don’t think I’ve ever smiled so much during a musical – even with the emotive story and not-so happy ending.
“A bold, poignant and beautifully performed musical portrait of a relationship.”
The Stage
“Samantha Barks and Jonathan Bailey shine. The punchy songs are a delight’”
Evening Standard
“A heart-wrenching love story. A masterful piece of storytelling.”
Radio Times
London was it’s usual exciting self this afternoon. I found myself taking photos of buildings and monuments I hadn’t seen before.
I also came across a charity shop with some not-so-cheap pieces, and we had a very quick browse around HEMA the Dutch discount shop, where I had to restrain myself from buying all the notebooks and kids arts and crafts buckets..
At this moment I could see The Shard. – Which is clearly not visible in this photograph.- Still the sky was blue and I wanted to document the various point of my journey so I quickly became the girl on the platform taking photos.
