Happiness by Design: RENT the Musical

“…To hand-crafted beers
Made in local breweries
To yoga, to yogurt, to rice and beans and cheese
To leather, to dildos, to curry vindaloo
To Huevos Rancheros and Maya Angelou…”

– La Vie Boheme, RENT

Today was just one of those awesome days that you want to repeat over and over.

Aimy and I fulfilled our teenage dream; to see RENT the musical.

It was everything we’d hoped it would be. – Love, joy, sex, sadness, all rolled into one amazing performance. We knew every song; and kept smiling to each other every time one of our faves came on or when someone nailed a high part. The vocals were fantastic and we just wanted to be up there dancing with them.

We’ve loved RENT ever since we were fifteen and would come home from school, put the soundtrack on and have a good sing and dance to it. Things haven’t really changed; we still listen to it getting ready for a night out, only now Maia comes in and dances with us.

RENT was simply the perfect way to kick off January 2017.

“..To days of inspiration
Playing hookey, making
Something out of nothing
The need to express-
To communicate,
To going against the grain,
Going insane, going mad
To loving tension, no pension
To more than one dimension,
To starving for attention,
Hating convention, hating pretension
Not to mention of course,
Hating dear old Mom and Dad
To riding your bike,
Midday past the three-piece suits
To fruits – to no absolutes-
To Absolut – to choice-
To the Village Voice-
To any passing fad
To being an us for once … instead of a them!..”

“…Bisexuals, trisexuals, homo sapiens,
Carcinogens, hallucinogens, men,
Pee-wee Herman
German wine, turpentine, Gertrude Stein
Antoniotti, Bertolucci, Kurosawa
Carmina Burana

To apathy, to entropy, to empathy, ecstasy
Vaclav Havel – The Sex Pistols, 8BC
To no shame – never playing the Fame Game
To marijuana!
To sodomy, it’s between God and me
To S&M!

La vie Bohème!…”

Exploring the neighbourhood…
